This military skills derived course is designed to provide law enforcement officers with an overview of the most common preventable combat deaths on the modern battlefield, and basic treatment techniques which can be executed as a team or as an individual. These techniques will be taught along the US Military concept of Tactical Combat Casualty Care; which includes providing direct threat, indirect threat, and evacuation care. The course is comprised of multiple lessons each followed by supervised skills practice time. The course culminates in a final scenario based exercise which requires students to demonstrate proficiency in all lessons learned.
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:
Identify the responsibilities of a first responder during all three phases of Emergency Casualty Care
Identify the indicators and potential complications associated with an extremity hemorrhage, an airway obstruction, penetrating trauma and blast injuries.
Demonstrate the skills required to treat an extremity hemorrhage, and airway obstruction, penetrating trauma and blast injuries within the scope of training.
Understand the importance of clear communication and procedural execution of trauma management in the event of traumatic injury.
